Semester tickets are obtained automatically by the students of the Otto von Guericke University, the Magdeburg-Stendal University, the study location of Magdeburg and the Harz University, study locations of Wernigerode and Halberstadt upon enrolment or re-enrolment for the courses of the respective university by paying the semester fees.

The cost of the semester ticket is 26 € for Magdeburg and 17 € for Wernigerode/ Halberstadt. These low prices can only be achieved through the principle of solidarity, i.e. they are basically payable by all students along with the semester fees.

The semester ticket in Magdeburg is valid only for the tram and bus network of the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe (MVB) during the day and for transport connections (except for the lines of the German Railways (DB) and regional bus lines!):
