Housing for International Students

Looking for a place to stay?

Unfortunately, the demand for dormitory rooms far exceeds the number of available rooms. As a result, many students have to look for housing on the private market.

To help you with this, we offer housing counseling at the start of the semester. Our housing counselors are available via housing@studentenwerk-magdeburg.de from September through October and from March through April. You can also schedule an in-person appointment or a Zoom call.

Living in student housing

If you live in one of our dormitories, you should definitely get to know our dorm tutors. The tutor team consists of international students and is coordinated by the Studentenwerk and Otto von Guericke University. They provide support with daily life in the residence hall, help resolve conflicts, and organize activities that make settling in easier and help you meet new people.

WITH each other – FOR each other

Another way to find affordable housing in Magdeburg is to participate in our “MIT einander FÜR einander” project. Students can live with host families at a low cost if they help out around the house – for example, with cleaning, gardening, or babysitting.

By participating, you’ll not only save money, but also make valuable connections, integrate more easily into local life, get to know German culture and daily customs, and improve your German in a real-life living situation.
