Declaration on accessibility
Our aim is to make this website accessible to all users, regardless of their technical capabilities and physical limitations.
When creating and maintaining this website, the Ordinance on the Creation of Barrier-free Information Technology in accordance with the Disability Equality Act (Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance BITV 2.0 – 2011, 2019), the Disability Equality Ordinance Saxony-Anhalt (BGGVO LSA) and the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) on web standards and accessibility on the Internet were and are observed.
This website is (as of July 2025) only partially accessible in accordance with the above-mentioned guidelines.
1. accessibility via keyboard control (AccessKeys)
Our homepage can be controlled with the keyboard, i.e. without a mouse or similar input devices. input devices. AccessKeys are supported on all subpages. As there is no standardized regulation for the assignment of access keys, we are guided by the most common key assignment in Germany:
- [0] – Homepage / Home page
- [1] – Hinweise zur Barrierefreiheit (diese Seite) / Accessibility information (this page)
- [5] – Zum Anfang der Seite springen / Jump to top of page
- [6] – Table of contents / Sitemap
- [7] – Search / Search
- [8] – Skip to page content / Jump to main content
- [9] – Imprint & Contact / Imprint & Feedback
To use AccessKeys, use the AccessKey pad, for example, or press the browser-specific key combination on your keyboard:
- Firefox under Windows and Linux: “Alt” + “Shift” + AccessKey
- Chrome under Windows and Linux: “Alt” + AccessKey
- Microsoft Edge under Windows: “Alt” + AccessKey
- Firefox, Chrome and Safari under MacOS: “Ctrl” + “Opt” + AccessKey
We recommend the use of the sitemap and the tabulator button for uncomplicated barrier-free navigation.
Non-accessible content: Interactive maps are provided by Google and are not or only partially accessible via keyboard navigation.
Forms, for example for registering for courses, currently do not yet use “label elements” and can therefore only be used to a limited extent by screen reader users. This problem will be fixed with an update by October 2025.
2. scalability
All font sizes and basic spacing are defined in relative dimensions. Depending on the browser used, you can change the display size in the menu or using the keyboard (e.g. Firefox: CTRL and + to enlarge, CTRL and – to reduce).
3. graphic information, videos and downloadable documents
If graphics and images are used to convey basic information, these are alternatively accompanied by a descriptive text. The same applies when graphics and images are used as navigation elements.
Non-accessible content: There are currently no subtitles and only partial descriptions for embedded videos. Not all downloadable documents on the website are accessible.
4. color contrasts
From November 19, 2024, the color contrasts between foreground and background will be at least 4.5 : 1 and thus meet the recommendations for accessible content.
5. use of browser-based scripting languages (JavaScript)
Information on this website is accessible without JavaScript. JavaScript is only used in a few places and is merely a simplification of some functions of this website, but not a requirement.
Non-accessible content: The online residence application and the online residence service are provided by an external service provider and currently only work with activated Javascript. As a barrier-free alternative, we offer you the option of submitting the application by e-mail or by telephone via our dormitory department: wohnen@studentenwerk-magdeburg.de, 0391-67-51549, 0391-67-51550
6. structure of the page layout
HTML elements are used according to their semantics so that the website can also be read and navigated with screen readers without style sheets. The positioning of elements is mostly done with div elements and CSS, only in a few cases are additional tables used. Empty/transparent graphics are not used at any point.
7. texts in simple / easy to understand language
Non-accessible content: This website does not currently offer any texts in simple / easy-to-understand language.
