Fraud schemes are currently spreading again!
Especially affected are students looking for jobs or housing, particularly international students unfamiliar with the area.
How to recognize Scams:
- Offers that seem to good to be true (dream apartment, very cheap)
- Pressure (“Decide quick”)
- You’re asked to use personal data (bank details, address) during the job
- Upfront payment or data requested immediately
- Communication only online, no personal contact
How to protect yourself:
- Check the legal notice (imprint)
- Are the name, address, and company real?
- Is there a commercial register entry? (Check it here.)
- Does the phonenumber/address actually exist?
- Does it match the company/region?
Keep in mind to NEVER:
- Use your private data in a work context
- Send ID photos carelessly
- Transfer money before viewing an apartment (in Germany, a deposit is never required before viewing)
- Forward packages for strangers
