Hardship Fund Loans
According to the “Guidelines governing the allocation of social benefits”, medium-term hardship fund loans can be exclusively given from the financial resources of the Studentenwerk Magdeburg to financially constrained students of the serviced universities, i.e. the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg, the Magdeburg-Stendal University and the Harz University.
The status of the person requiring aid in terms of hardship fund loan allocation is generally applied to students who do not receive benefits under BAföG or similar services of other social service authorities, do not receive maintenance and support payments or cannot claim such, or if their non-receipt cannot be attributed to such students.
The loans are granted only for the applicant’s own subsistence as well as for his/her study expenses. The loans may not be used to repay existing liabilities, to support third parties, to cover medical treatment expenses and for other purposes having no causal connection to study tasks.
Under no circumstances this loan can replace a long term study financing!
The application for a hardship fund loan is submitted in person exclusively in the General Social Counselling section of the Student Services Department.
You can find the necessary application form here:
The granting of loans falls under the supervision of the Studentenwerk’s board of directors. The decision is final.
