The Federal Government offers students the possibility in advanced education phases of taking up a soft loan according to the promoting regulations of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF - www.bmbf.de) Educational Loan.  The support is independent of the fortune and income of the applicant and his parents. A supply which is not available on the capital market till now is created here for students who frequently cannot put up any securities.

The loan gets paid-out, at the latest for 24 months, i.e. up to 7,200 euros by monthly rates of 100, 200 or 300 euros.  If a corresponding need is proven, e.g. for the acquisition of cost-intensive teaching aids, a part of the loan can be paid out in advance as a reduction up to the limit of 3,600 euros if the limit of 24 monthly instalments and 7,200 euros altogether is not exceeded. No legal right insists on the granting of the education loan. Students are application authorized if they

• are attending a university (e.g. university of the arts/technological high school/university)
• have passed the intermediate examination/intermediate exam of her course of studies or present a written explanation of the training center from which results that an intermediate examination is not provided in the course of studies and the studying has rendered the usual services of at least the first two education years,
• or an additional year, or post-graduate course operates and has a degree already in a basal course of studies.

The loan lasts until the completion of the 36th year of life at most and in principle allocated only until the end of the 12th university semester. Students are only entitled to the loan when they are registered for the final examination and will reach the degree most likely within the possible promoting time period.The education loan can be used under consideration of the prerequisites mentioned above.

The Swiss Code of Education a term abroad describes the study phase when the university certifies that the content of this term abroad could be credited to the whole study phase. The application for credit is direct to the Bundesverwaltungsamt zu. It is checked here whether there are the prerequisites for the granting of an education loan.
