Rent allowance related to/and BAföG or housing allowance ?

If the student is still residing with his/her parents, he/she will receive an allowance of 48,00 € additional to the basic amount of 366,00 €. If he/she is not residing with his/her parents he/she will receive a subsidy of 146,00 €.

Only if the rent will be demonstrable higher than 146,00 € the amount will be increased to 72, 00 €.
Two things are important:

1. A trainee lives with parents if he lives with them in a domestic community.
He does not live with them in a domestic community if he visits the training centre from own lodging.

2. A trainee also lives with his parents if the space inhabited by him stands in the property of the parents.

When turning in the applications for achievements after the BAföG you also need to turn in proof about the costs of the lodging.
Pay attention to whether your rental contract (e.g., with the Studentenwerk Magdeburg) runs out in the end of the year and do not forget to submit a new one. After §53 sentence 1 No. 1 a change occurs at the most for 3 months before the month in which the student had informed us of the change.

As a registered student you have no right to housing subsidy, also not if you have received a so-called `zero answer`.
Only if the basic claim to scholarship is forfeited, you can apply for housing subsidy; these are as a rule refusals for second educations (§7 paragraph 2), change of one´s field of study (§7 paragraph 3), another nationality (§8) and exceeding the age limit (§10 paragraph 3).

The housing subsidy office needs as a proof the refusal answer of the Studentenwerk  and the certificate for the claim to housing subsidy. So that you will not lose your claim to housing subsidy, you must take the visit the BAföG-office and check your basic claim.
