Needs of handicapped or chronically-sick students
Handicapped and/or chronically ill studentd often have problems which can be addressed with counselling. Often it becomes clear in the first inquiry by phone or via e-mail that these students lack important information about special treatment at exams, apprenticeships, etc. Often these students do not recognize their special needs until they are already experiencing distress.
Also, some of these students remain unaware that they are entitled to an attendance allowance, financial assistance and other support services or benefits. Also, we find that clarification of the student’s circumstances are often necessary to integrate them at the welfare and unemployment office.

Students can learn important information on this topic in the handbook 'Studium und Behinderung', which is published by the information center 'Studium und Behinderung' of the Deutschen Studentenwerkes (DSW).
