During the first four semesters or two first academic years, the grant is paid after receiving the scholarship of BAföG without any achievement examination.

After the fifth professional semester the study achievements will be checked to see if they correspond to the usual performance level. These certificates are issued by teachers or by the respective examination office. Only your department decides on whether you have reached the normal achievements of your course of studies. Please find out early what criteria needs to be fullfilled.

The Office for Education Support checks solely the YES or NO and the signature of the confirmed achievement proof. Should you not be able to prove the demanded performance, on the form 5 (intended for this), you can apply to shift the appointment of the presentation of the suitability proof. You can also consult maybe transitional-wise concerning alternative financing. The office for education support can admit the presentation of the suitability certificate at a later time if facts are given, probably justify a later excess of the support maximum (see §15 Abs.3 scholarship).

These are considered:

• Serious reasons (illness, reasons lies in the university organisation and were not caused by the student)
• An education remains abroad in general two semesters disregarded
• Committee activity
• An impediment, a pregnancy or the care and education of a child up to ten years
• Serving in the military or alternative service
• The first-time missing of an intermediate examination which is a condition for the continuation of the education can be a serious problem

Remember, negative achievements will interrupt your scholarship payment. So if you have problems with your document of achievment, please inform the administration office or the office for educational support.
