Basically, for the allowance of the income of the parents or the spouse of the student we will need the data from the year before the last calendar year before applying for BAföG. If you would put in an application for the first time in 2009 so the data from 2007 would be significant.

What should be done if the income is lower than before owing to unemployment, short-time work, illness or retirement? In this case you will have the opportunity to fill in the "Aktualisierungsantrag gemäß § 24 Abs. 3 BAföG" a so called update of the original application. The amount granted depends on the basis of your income. 

Please pay special attention to this peculiarity of the update method:

The actual paid allowance will only be paid with reservation that the amount will be reimbursed.  After receiving the final income, the reservation is disolved by a final calculation. Should the income of the student increase during the concerning period, the amount of the increase will need to be reimbursed. If an actualisation application is made, the scholarship office should be informed immediately of the  income rise to avoid a reclaim. Also it is important to know that an actualisation application must be made before the end of the concerning BWZ. If an application is made only afterwards, an actualisation for this BWZ will not be possible. Moreover, you should think that an once made application for actualisation cannot be taken back after occurred actualisation any more.
